Knock on wood! My kids rarely get sick. More than likely it’s because I’m a lazy kinda momma. I’ve never been overly stressed about germy stuff. Don’t get me wrong, they have to wash their hands in the bathroom, but I’m not a clean freak. The tribe have all grown up eating their fair share of dirt (and mosquitos and moose poo), sharing cups with all of their siblings and *shock* not using hand sanitizer. Well…except for Izzy…she went through a weird phase where she carried that stuff everywhere. Don’t ask me why, maybe it was to balance out the mosquitos and moose poo…
Anyhoo! When they do get sick, it’s like a man-cold. They go down hard and fast. If it’s really bad, I’ll use over-the-counter meds, but usually I try to let a cold it run it’s course. So for soothing and natural healing I make this hot drink, same one my momma made for me and my bro. I mentioned it on my facebook page and have had many requests for the recipe, so here you go! I’ve added a few touches, but it’s basically the same. One big mug of hot lemon & honey!
Of course it works best when it’s served with love, snuggles and a blanket-wrapped movie marathon ♥
Hot Lemon & Honey
Ingredients: serves 2
- 1½ cups boiling water
- ½ cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 3 tbs fresh organic honey, I used a lavender & thistle flavoured one…smelled amazing!
- pinch of fresh ground ginger
- pinch of grated cinnamon
- pinch of lemon zest
- cinnamon sticks for garnish
- Mix all ingredients well in a large measuring cup, pour equally into two mugs
- Garnish with cinnamon stick for stirring
- Serve with a hug
